I don’t know about where you are, but it is starting to feel slightly chilly outside here. That means only one thing; Christmas is around the corner! With that said, I was sent the most perfect book to review to get me into the Christmas mood.
The book set in 1942 and follows the lives of the Woolworths girls; Sarah, Maisie, Freda and shop manager, Betty. The shop provides both sanctuary and friendship for the girls, as they live in the uncertainty of wartime. Sarah’s husband Ian, will soon be called up to the Air Force. Maisie, meanwhile, attempts to balance her desire for a family against doing her bit for the war effort. Freda’s brother is fighting in the Navy. Betty, the rock for the girls, lost her fiancé Charlie during the Great War in 1917 and gave up on love every since.
We see the twists and emotional turns faced by each of the women. Do loved ones survive? Can love find a way? With so much change, can their friendship survive the war?
It is a lovely heart-felt read and for that reason, I have to give this book a 8.5 out of 10. It would make the perfect little stocking filer! The book also gave a chance for a slice of nostalgia, having grown up in a time where Woolies was one of our great high street institutions.
The book is due for release on 2nd November 2017.
The blog tour which will consist of reviews, author content and giveaways runs from 23rd October – .5th November. I have attached the details of the full tour.
Lots of love,
