Blog Tour: A Gift From Woolworths by Elaine Everest*

Here in the UK, the days are getting shorter and it’s getting colder outside. The one thing that always cheers me up is the thought that Christmas is around the corner. I was kindly sent a copy of A Gift From Woolworths by Elaine Everest. This is the perfect book to get me into the Christmas mood. I believe it is the fifth book in the Woolworths series.

The book set in wartime Britain in 1945 and follows the lives of the Woolworths girls; Sarah, Maisie, Freda and shop manager, Betty. The shop provides both sanctuary and friendship for the girls, as they live in the uncertainty of wartime.

When Betty, announces she is expecting Douglas’s baby her future life is about to change more than she expects.

Freda has fallen in love with the handsome Scottish engineer but will it end happily?

Maisie loves being a mother and also caring for her two nieces although she still has her own dreams. When her brother appears on the scene he brings unexpected danger to the family.

Meanwhile Sarah dreams of her husband’s return and a cottage with roses around the door but Woolworths beckons.

Will our girls sail into times of peace, or will they experience more heartache and sorrow? With a wedding on the horizon, surely only happiness lies ahead – or does it?

Again, like Christmas at Woolworths, it is a lovely heart-felt read. I give this book a 8 out of 10. It would make the perfect little stocking filer. The book also provides another slice of nostalgia, having grown up in a time where Woolworths was one of our great high street institutions. I reviewed Christmas at Woolworths, last year if you fancy a ganders.

The book was released on 1st November 2018, so is now available now in all good bookshops.
